Born in Edinburgh in 1985, Zack completed a BA degree (with distinction) in music performance at the University of The Highlands and Islands before gaining an MMus in Musicology at the University of Edinburgh.  He is currently working towards a PhD in music within the Institute for Music in Human and Social Development (IMHSD -University of Edinburgh) which is based on the improvement of music listening experiences for cochlear implant users.

As an improviser and composer, Zack works extensively with saxophones, guitars, pianos, synthesizers and computers creating interesting and engaging experimental music. His involvement in numerous projects in which he has the freedom to blend jazz and other musical forms has led to the development of an original and exciting sound which is rich, lively and vibrant.

In early 2008 Zack, along with fellow musician/composer Sean McLaughlin and playwright/artist Dave Fargnoli, founded Stitch Records. This is an independent Edinburgh-based record label that has released the debut album by the Multiple Organism Jazz Orchestra - 'Arguments (Waiting to Happen)' which features three of Zack's compositions. The label has just released the new album by the Zack A. Moir Collective - 'DIALOGUES concerning...'
